A training programme extensively covering the topic of Sensitization of Police Personnel on Animal Laws (The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960) was organized at the Recruit Training Centre (RTC) of Chandigarh police in Sector-26 on Saturday. About 90 police personnel of various ranks attended the programme, which saw Inder Sandhu, director of an NGO from Mohali delivering the lecture on the topic. Also, during the event an interactive session was held to detail cops on the reduction of human-animal conflict and sensitization to animal cruelty. Other issues covered included overloading of horse carts, overworking donkeys, abandonment and abuse to domestic animals etc. Several ideas were floated as to how the Police can support animal welfare officers appointed by the Animal Welfare Board of India. The main objective of the training programme was to sensitize the police force to prevent the cruelty on animals.
